Review of Tokyo Gore Police (2008) by Stevan K — 10 Jan 2009
If, like me, Machine Girl left you wanting in the gore department thanks to its insane, blood-drenched trailers that promised too much, I can safely say that (y)our film has arrived. That film is called Tokyo Gore Police, and director Yoshihiro Nishimura's deliriously gooey splatter flick's title makes a promise that its 110 (!?) minutes definitely keep.
So yeah, it's pretty long for a film of this type, but TGP actually has a story, and a decent one to boot. It involves Eihi Shiina's quest for revenge (what else?) as she battles the Engineers - mutated psychotic killing machines - alongside the privatized Tokyo PD, all the while searching for her father's killer. Okay, so it isn't Shakespeare, and the twists are pretty obvious far in advance of their reveals, but it does the job.
And if you guessed who the father-killer is from the first time you see him, it doesn't matter, because I'm sure that you never thought you'd see a woman who has breasts with teeth and legs resembling an alligator's head. How about a dsigusting-looking, cannibalistic Tak Sakaguchi? Or a sex club that showcases such beauties as snail-woman, and a lady who's been turned into a chair who gives the welcoming audience a golden shower? A man whose giant mutated penis shoots bullets and lets off an elephant call upon its reveal? Or a fight scene involving a limbless gimp whose arms and legs have been replaced by swords (fucking awesome, by the way)?
If any of those things appeal to you, this film is your mecca. Tokyo Gore Police is gloriously well-made trash.
