Review of Tokyo Gore Police (2008) by Carl N — 18 Feb 2009
WOW! This film is awesome. A non stop Surreal and full throttle paced Japanese splatter film. From start to finish its non-stop OTT cartoonish gore! The blood sprays, limbs are ripped off, heads roll, and bodies are torn asunder.
I think most of this film's budget was spent on red cherryade and fire hoses. Every severed limb produces gallons of fake blood. The lead is the insanely beautiful Eihi Shiina who plays Ruka a Tokyo cop whose specialty is hunting "engineers", genetically modified humans who can reconstitute their flesh wounds as weapons.
What I really love about this is that it doesnt takes itself seriously and is actually a pretty smart and inventive monster of a film. And running at 2 hours long it never bores. Also scattered throughout the film are mock commercials akin to Paul Verhoven.
Lovely stuff!
