Review of To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (1995) by Hunter H — 02 Jun 2013
To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar may not be the most original comedy to come on the scene, but it has enough creativity to keep it flying, and when To Wong Foo flies, it soars. Our main characters could pass as drag queens to the untrained eye, but underneath are John Leguizamo, Wesley Snipes and the late Patrick Swayze, each of which give impeccable and unique performances.
While the story is pretty cookie cutter, the film is saved by its cast, including an interesting supporting cast of Stockard Channing and Blythe Danner, who play less than ordinary small town folk. The flaws of the film are smaller and less prevalent, including many editing issues including scenes seeming to end before they are even given a chance to begin, and while the film is incredibly unrealistic, the output is a sweet, endearing, absolutely hilarious joyride that comes highly recommended to drag lovers, and recommended as a rental to those less "acquainted" with the subject.
