I was going to begin by slating Falkirk Cineworld for refusing to screen this new release, however having now watched it in Glasgow I applaud their managerial decision-making.

A polite, complimentary, arty-farty review: a meditation on love and faith, laced with beautiful visual imagery and a haunting score.

A more brutal, honest assessment: a tedious, self-indulgent dirge.

If the director wanted to create a film lacking in plot, characterisation, drama and empathy, he has succeeded.

If he wanted to create an enjoyable or even mildly satisfying one, he has failed, miserably.

In one "scene" (I use the term loosely) a disembodied voice relates: "My mother told me I'm chasing moonbeams. I told her I'd rather have moonbeams than the life I led before.".

To paraphrase: "I'm chasing good films. I'd rather have the life I led before I watched this film.".

Out of an audience of between thirty to forty people, seven left.

Verdict: a void, avoid.
