I went into Terrence malicks new film expecting a beautifully intimate movie, which he usually does. Visually, yes, it is beautiful. But intimately, it's a little empty. You sympathize with one character, and that's it.

This is a big letdown, probably the years biggest. That's the problem when you're a director as good as Malick: once you enchant us once, we expect it over and over again.
