Review of To the Wonder (2013) by Tom H — 25 Jul 2013
Nothing but fragments in sound and picture, overlapping, coming in too early or late, but very carefully and deliberately put together by Terrence Malick. What you get is an all too common story unfolding before your eyes and in your brain with nothing but subtle hints to go on framed in beautiful photography.
The director's consistency in poetic style may appear a bit difficult but is spot on for this kind of film. Unconventional story telling and anything but a Hollywood movie explains why most of the critics can't get their head around it.
Bottom line: Terrence Malick all the way.
