Review of To the Wonder (2013) by Alaeddin H — 20 Nov 2013
Malick's spiritual meditation continues from The Tree of Life, where instead of pondering on the universal phenomenon of human suffering, he posits a Christian worldview of love. As with tradition, the film is for many, unpalatable in its narrative, but married with some of the most beautiful imagery.
To The Wonder is not as engaging his previous films due to its sparse narrative, but it is in many ways his strongest and most explicitly prayerful film, which makes those of faith or lovers of philosophy really appreciate its substance.
