Review of To the Devil a Daughter (1976) by Shaun B — 05 Sep 2011
Loosely based on a novel by Dennis Wheatly. Notable as being Hammer's final film. Hammer was starting to look rather dated and old fashioned compard to the new wave of American films coming out at this time. Shame really as the film was in fact a fascinating glimpse of a possible more modern direction.
The film deals with the occult and satanism which has a very Rosemary's Baby feel to it. A pleasent watch throughout with some great acting on show, notably Christopher Lee as the evil priest. The only real problem with this film is the rather silly tacked on ending which I gather didn't go down well, especially the author himself.
All in all a decent send off from the Hammer series. Just a shame they couldn't come up with a better ending. 6.5/10.
