Review of To Save a Life (2009) by Dina B — 05 Feb 2010
I enjoyed To Save A Life quite a bit. I think it would be safe to say it exceeded my expectations going in. Most Christian films, though they have good intentions, just seem a bit...off in my opinion. By that I mean either the acting is not very good, the direction and story is after-school special-ish, and the message of God/Christ is just overly preachy.
To Save A Life avoided all of that for me. The cast, perhaps helped by being unknowns, did very well. The teens especially reflected the highs and lows of the high school experience quite realistically.
The story does go pretty much how you would expect it to but still somehow worked to draw me into the stories of these kids. The message focuses on God more than on Christ but in terms of the story, it works.
I give the movie props for showing that becoming a Christian can be a challenge and that there are people who fail - and at times quite miserably - and yet those same people are never to be given up on.
