Review of To Save a Life (2009) by Tim S — 26 Aug 2010
Everyone needs to lighten up about the message of this film. It never claimed to be anything but a narrative demonstrating the power of God's love to change lives.
What makes it different, good, and better than most Christian movies is that it clearly shows how much the Christians need to change as well. A seeker shows the believers the path to a fuller salvation. That's innovative and not preachy. The senior pastor is portrayed as the worst person in the movie! So it's not stereotypical or preachy. It's the opposite. It focuses on behavior over beliefs. Beliefs are important but living what you believe and giving what people need is how you change the world.
Christian movies were rejected, so they have evolved. A lot of reviewers haven't.
It seems they either don't believe in God and don't want anyone else to believe in God, or don't want people's lives to actually change. They're being biased.
I watched it with 3 other people and two made important decisions about relationships and acted on it immediately after watching! Now that's powerful.
The story's not perfect, but it sure isn't simplistic, it is realistic to what teens do. It's not pretending teens are college students like most TV shows do these days. It's hitting its mark and making a difference on video and I'm glad.
Ignore the bad reviews and watch it.
