Review of To Rome with Love (2012) by Steve M — 21 Jul 2012
To Rome With Love was a standard Woody Allen flick that had me laughing harder than any of this recent films ever did. Alec Baldwin and Jesse Eisenberg's story was by far my favorite, their banter was just wonderful, and the situations each character was put in was silly beyond belief (singing in the shower, prostitute running into old clients at a party, ect.), but still undeniably funny.
The problems I had with it were a lot to do with the pacing. I felt it was all over the place in story, even the tone was pretty consistent. Things were just a little too silly at times, and some of the characters stories dragged.
No where near as good as Midnight in Paris, but it's a fine little film that will be fun to watch for the time being, but probably wont be remembered down the road. Like most of his work.
B-.
