Review of To Rome with Love (2012) by Brian K — 18 Jul 2012
My girlfriend and I's first date was to see Midnight In Paris, and that was amazing. It was funny and charming and romantic. For our one year anniversary, we decided to see this movie, and can't say it was nearly as good.
In Midnight In Paris, Woody Allen wasn't his stereotypical self, which I liked. In here, he was textbook Woody Allen, which while funny sometimes, also didn't fit a lot. It was overall quite weird, and while the comedy redeemed itself, it still wasn't enough to carry the weight of the whole film. To put it simply, it was to hodge-podgey to work.
