Review of To Rome with Love (2012) by Davey M — 09 Dec 2012
It doesn't have the magic of last year's "Midnight in Paris," but "To Rome With Love" retains much of that film's warmth and the sweet-natured grass-is-greener thematic undercurrent, and it's great to see Woody on screen again, even if his one-liners seem to be growing increasingly clumsy.
The story with Baldwin and Eisenberg has the most poignant emotional core, the Begnini bits and the best parts of Allen's segment feel like a throwback to the "earlier, funny" stuff, and, while Cruz's storyline is easily the least interesting and memorable, she's great as always.
A pretty weak entry in the Woody Allen canon, but not at all an unpleasant one.
