Review of To Rome with Love (2012) by Kem W — 01 Aug 2013
Four (non-interlocking) stories that take place in Rome from Woody Allen whose latest schtick (after never leaving New York for some time) is to travel to a different city each year to make a film. Whereas the previous year's Midnight in Paris was able to capture some magic in its bottle, this Roman vintage has gone flat.
Not that there aren't wistful or funny moments -- there are some, especially if you like to see other actors "playing" Woody Allen (or the 75 year old himself, looking a bit slower than in the past).
Roberto Benigni (remember him?) is stranded in the most superficial story (but none of them are particularly deep. Perhaps it would have been better to take one of these stories and expand it. Passable.
