Review of To Rome with Love (2012) by Tanjima Z — 24 Jul 2012
I got to watch the movie for free & enjoyed it quite a bit. Donno if the sentiments would have been the same if I had to spend some money.
Funny, witty, with reference to the absurdities of the current social media with occassional hypes about seemingly regular things. This was my first Woody Allen movie and it was all I expected. The collective stories were unrelated and non-linear but the simple turns of events are sometimes too clearly imaginary; but may be that was the aim of the director. I am not educated enough to call the making perfect or scrutinize it since the topics dealt with were human emotions and it is the simplest most profound thing to work with, blending reality and imagination. The performance by Alec Baldwin has definitely garnered my respect for him and now I place him as a jewel on my list of superb comedic actors. His timing of speech delivery is what made me laugh out loud uncrontollably every time. With a good cast and making, this film is of great entertainment but only to a selective few. Somehow it falls short to make a bigger impression. Perhaps the era of wit is ending with the hi-fi computer graphics and action sequences, or perhaps there have been better movies like this.
