Review of To Live and Die in L.A. (1985) by Trevor F — 12 Feb 2009
This is by far one of the best crime movies ever made and one of the best movies of the 1980's. A lot of people don't like it because they were getting too use to the cop buddy formula. William Petersen plays a Secret Service agent willing to bend every rule to get a counterfeiter played by Willem Dafoe who killed his partner.
There's a lot of tension between Petersen and John Pankow as they play a good cop/bad cop routine realistically. The ending was unlike any other 80's movie, but you realize it's necessary because it makes the movie more of a morality play.
Also, the chase scene is terrific mostly because William Friedkin shot it with Petersen actually driving the car and Pankow was really freaking out. And let's not forget Wang Chung's great musical score.
Yes, I said it. Wang Chung is great!
