Review of To Leslie (2022) by Tvjerry — 27 Feb 2023
The opening scene shows an uber-enthusiastic Leslie (Andrea Riseborough) winning a lottery for $190,000. Cut to 6 years later, when she's exhausted all her money and been estranged from her family. This gives Riseborough an opportunity to go all out, creating an immensely flawed character with undeniable charm.
As the character struggles to regain her past, her desperate performance takes on even more resonance. Marc Maron does nice job in his surprisingly out-of-character role. As a matter of fact, director Michael Morris has created an impressive ensemble crammed with effective performances.
The overall drama unfolds slowly, but Riseborough's tender and beautifully observed performance makes it worth the time.
