The 1962 dramatisation of Harper Lee's one and only published novel, for which she won the 1961 Pulitzer Prize, is universally accepted as being an all-time classic, and it's an accolade that is well-deserved.

Gregory Peck was the perfect casting choice for the role of Atticus Finch for his almost Presidential air of authority on screen, and he duly won a best actor Oscar for his performance.

A tale of how a small-town lawyer takes a stand against rascism, defending a black man wrongly accused of raping a white woman in the Southern states of America in the early 1930's, the beauty of this film is that it is seen and narrated through the eyes of his two children, enabling us to learn about the characters, the setting and location, and the mood of the era in which it is set, long before the important events of the film start to unfold.

A wonderful morality tale, it is also a wonderful cinematic example of a father trying to set the best possible example for his children. A genuine must-see for everyone.
