Review of To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) by Nick R — 28 Jan 2012
A classic movie for a classic novel.
The film spends more time on the court case than the actual legend of Boo Radley, played by a younger Robert Duvall. However, I loved the way the story was told. The only main gripe I have is that outside of Brock Peters, I never cared much for any of the supporting cast. That next door neighbor kid looked like a Nazi youth that fell and hit every branch of the ugly awkward tree. He was more annoying than constructive to the plot.
The core characters of Atticus, Scout, and Jem are phenomenal. They felt like a real family even if surrounded by the naivety of the film's portrayal of the America of yore.
This is a great movie. Young and old alike will appreciate its story and values. And if you didn't like the book simply because you had to read it, maybe you should give the film a try.
