Review of To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) by Keenan S — 15 Oct 2012
To Kill A Mockingbird is one of the very few praised films I have ever disliked, as well as being the only film considered a classic that I've disliked. Gregory Peck is a great actor who carries this film above its thin strip of a plot, but even he can't save this drab melodrama.
I've always felt this film and the book it was based on to be painfully hollow and devoid of life. Despite this film trying to tackle the issue of racism, the trial that happens in the film feels like a side note, while the rest of the plot meandered aimlessly with its boring child characters who I find more irritating than engaging.
I felt this film had nothing profound to say, while sugar-coating the evils of racism. What a bitter disappointment in every way.
