Review of To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) by John W — 06 Apr 2015
Starring Gregory Peck, Mary Badham, Brock Peters and Robert Duvall. The rare film adapted from literature which equals its printed counterpart. Gregory Peck was born to play Atticus Finch, and here he is the embodiment of strength and courage.
Mary Badham brings to life his daughter 'Scout' who loses her emotional innocence watching her father defend Brock Peters' Tom Robinson on charges of rape. Duvall, in his film debut, is 'Boo' Radley, the reclusive neighbour 'Scout' and her brother are determined to meet.
The characters are so alive, as they are in Harper Lee's book. Maycomb, Alabama is worth revisiting. Directed by Robert Mulligan.
