Review of To Have and Have Not (1945) by Renée T — 23 Sep 2007
You can smell the smoke between Bogart and Bacall, who first met on the set of this film and eventually wed. Directed by Howard Hawks, this has all of his thematic trademarks, and all the snappy patter that go with a Hawks movie.
The plot and the suspense really take a second seat to the banter and chemistry of the two leads and the supporting stars (Walter Brennan is great!).
