There is, in my opinion, no pairing like bogart and becall. I love every film they were in together, I love the dynamics of how they looked, worked, kissed, etc. they were just an interesting pair to watch together.

bogart is always who he is, he had range (which he showed in 'treasure of sierra madre') but most of the time he played himself, bogart the coolest man on earth. becall, is one of the most beautiful starlets every to grace tinseltown.

the deep voice, the look she gives, it's awesome classic hollywood stuff. this film is better than 'key largo' and 'dark passage'. it's not as good as 'the big sleep' one of my all time favorite films, but this film is in the same league.

there is something extra special about these four films in that they were in love both on and off screen, they met during the filming of this film and eventually went on to marry one another until bogart's death.

this undeniable chemistry is clear from the first moment you see them together. it's special. the dialog crackles, the black and white cinematography is fine, the acting is great, this is a good overlooked film in howard hawks' catalog.

with his other films like 'scarface', 'the big sleep', 'bringing up baby', this film deserves a place next to them. he is one of the all time greats, definitely in the top ten all time directors with the likes of speilberg, ford, kieslowski, hitchcock, etc.

he's great and u can't get much better than this.
