Review of To Have and Have Not (1945) by Al M — 11 Feb 2009
Equally as impressive as Casablanca (and with a very similar plot), To Have and Have Not is equal parts bad-ass, passionately romantic, thrilling, and downright hilarious. A montley collection of characters in Vichy era Martinique including Bogey and Bacall make this a must see film.
Perhaps a bit propagandistic (as is Casablanca), the tale of two passionately freespirited people set against a backgrop of fascist oppression still smolders to this day.
