Review of To Have and Have Not (1945) by Fil A — 30 Jul 2011
A film notable not only for being Lauren Bacall's Hollywood debut but also her first of many appearances alongside her soon-to-be husband Humphrey Bogart. To Have and Have Not is a well-crafted romantic drama, made great by a culmination of solid screenplay, assured direction and memorable performances.
While it does mimic Casablanca in a number of ways, it ultimately stands on its own feet creating great intrigue and featuring unforgettable chemistry between its leads.
