Review of To Have and Have Not (1945) by Carey R — 09 Mar 2010
Bogie and Bacall at the beginning and at their best. Based on Hemingway's novel of the same name, and with a screenplay written by William Faulkner (yes, that Faulkner), what else could you want? The fact that the movie was set in Fort-de-France, Martinique seems to have been some foreshadowing for my own life, but I digress.
Definitely one of my favorite movies, and one I own and watch again and again. I remember seeing this for the first time, and realizing that this was Bacall's film debut and that she was only 20 years old when this film was made.
I tried to imagine Bacall walking around my college campus and failed. Not much else to say, except: "You know how to whistle don't you...".
