Review of To End All Wars (2001) by Wayne H — 27 Jun 2009
I was surprised as to what this movie actually was. In other words I was expecting it to be "Japanese bad; Allies good". It was interesting because it kind of mislead me into thinking it was just that for the first 30 minutes or so.
The film transcends a mere world war II pic. It shows the brutality and inhumanity of the war camps but it goes beyond that says that without forgiveness, we are just like those who would do harm to us.
All of these character both Japanese and Allied, aren't portrayed as good and evil. Even though there are characters that do horrible things in this movie -- on both sides, everyone is ultimately human.
They are all soldiers who will die for the country. Good movie.
