Review of To Die For (1995) by Donna . — 19 Mar 2008
Wow, Nicole Kidman is terrific in this film! I never knew that she could play such a cold, manipulative seductress. I'm only familiar with her post-Cruise work, playing vulnerable in movies like The Hours, The Others, Cold Mountain and Moulin Rouge.
Kidman's character TV weather girl Suzanne Stone reminded me a little of Tracey Flick from Election, in that both characters are freakishly driven to shine at all times, and will do whatever it takes to keep on shining for that is what they live for. They're the kind of person you both envy and pity.
Alison Folland was also excellent in this film as the insecure teenager infatuated with Kidman's character.
This is a great dark comedy/satire about infamy and the media frenzies criminals generate.
