Review of To Catch a Thief (1955) by Matt H — 11 Dec 2008
One of Hitchcock's best, a beautifully shot film set on the French Riviera, featuring the stunningly beautiful Grace Kelly, and the charming everyman Cary Grant. It's a thriller and romance with a sprinkling of light-hearted fun.
I've just watched a restored version, and the VistaVision colour still leaps off the screen as I imagine it did when cinema audiences saw it for the first time way back in 1955. Some of the aerial sequences over the cliff roads are particularly superb.
This is a smart cat burglar thriller with a sassy script, that a lot of films have since ripped off. 5 stars, deserves no less.
