Review of To Catch a Thief (1955) by Barbara O — 29 Nov 2008
The master of suspense clearly wasn't the master of romcom.
Probably because of kelly's monaco connection this is still one of hitchcock's most famous films - a fact not really based in the quality of the film itself. the story is predictable as the plot is slowww. the chemistry between these two famed actors is somewhat non-existent (she: you are robie. he: I'm not. she: yes you are. he: no I'm not. uh, stop it!) where did rear window's stunning emancipated lisa carol fremont go anyway?! here kelly is only allowed to play some grizzling girly girl, while grant plays some over-tanned old...er man. and what happened to hitchcock's pointed subtlety (fireworks!)?
One of the most boring and most overrated hitchcocks I've seen.
