Review of To Catch a Thief (1955) by Ken R — 06 Jan 2011
Hitchcock gets a bigger budget, so he grabs some of his favorite people and makes a movie just for fun. At least that's how this one came across to me. The traditional Hitchcock tension is all but absent, but it's replaced by Cary Grant and Grace Kelly showing off their chemistry the way movie stars used to.
A nice diversion with some good scenes, and hardly among the man's many masterpieces, but then it wasn't meant to be. Though the fact that Hitchcock can make a mostly entertaining Hollywood film without really trying speaks to the enormous depths of his talent during his peak few decades.
