Review of To Catch a Thief (1955) by Jean B — 11 Sep 2008
This was one classic on my queue that I had looked forward to for some time, and a Hitchcock being a Hitchcock, it was wonderful. Grace Kelly as the lead female role had lines no less clever than Gregory Peck's wily character, and she delivered them with impeccable flair.
Gregory Peck was as tall, dark, and handsome as he always is, but I looked forward to more of what Grace would say or wear next. I was rather amused at seeing Peck play a character who didn?t know exactly what to expect or how to respond to the opposite gender.
It was refreshing to see a feisty female take over the show in an older movie with perhaps even more sass and self-respect than a lot of the half-clothed women seen in today's chick flicks. And although she did don a bikini at some point in the movie, I only remember the lovely gowns she wore and especially, the sophisticated black and white ensemble with the white hat that she wore to meet Peck in the lobby.
