Review of To Catch a Thief (1955) by Deb S — 09 Apr 2010
The movie is about a retired diamond thief John Robie nicknamed "The Cat" (Cary Grant) who is naturally the chief suspect because of a series of diamond robberies conducted in the same style as of Robie's.
In his attempt to unmask the true criminal to clear his name and prove his innocence, Robie has now got to catch the real thief for which he takes the help of a rich lady and her daughter Frances (Grace Kelly).
Grace Kelly and the French Riviera were very beautiful and after many robberies, suspicions, and chases, the real thief is caught and in pure Hitchcock style, it never fails to surprise the viewer. It was a fun romantic mystery that maintains a good amount of suspense and great cameo of Alfred Hitchcock sitting next to John Robie on the bus.
The playful exchanges between Grant and Kelly are rife with sexual innuendo but it was extremely well done and quite a bit of fun to watch.
