Review of To Be or Not to Be (1998) by Victor L — 13 Aug 2011
To be or not to be is a timeless classic that mixes hilarious comedy with a complex and deep political message. I think Lubitsch, being a german jewish, felt he had to make this public denounce of the sad situation people were living in invaded countries like Poland where Gestapo's officers and policemen eradicated lots of freedoms.
Carole Lombard was gorgeous, glamourous, funny and talented, it's a pitty she died that soon, she was a true star. I found a lot of elements in this movie that Tarantino took to make Inglorious Basterds.
