Review of To Be and to Have (2002) by Sv G — 23 Feb 2008
This documentary from 2002 is about a one room school house in the French countryside. It is a very subtle tiny film with a great big message & it welcomes you into it's world like a gentle hug.
The film-maker uses the beautiful images & changing seasons of the countryside outside of the classroom windows to demonstrate the small day to day changes going on IN the classroom that is preparing the children for the changing seasons and the world outside the window in their own lives.
Watching the older children assist the younger ones and watching how they all work their problems both in their schoolwork and with each other out together is a lesson this world today could take heed to.
Precious and gentle and memorable & a testament to the dedication of this teacher and those like him.
