Review of TMNT (2007) by Kate L — 03 Jan 2012

It has been years since I have watched the previous live action Ninja Turtle films, so when I crossed this one, I figured I would give it a shot. The look of this film is gritty and fun, I found it interesting that some of the bad guys were armed with real weapons, like an AK-47 machine gun in a PG movie (ever since they replaced guns with walkie talkies in E.T this is a pleasant surprise).

Now as for the story, it is never really stated, but this is an indirect sequel to the previous 3 live action films, if you check out imdb's trivia section, they comment on a certain scene in which a trophy case is shown presenting different pieces from the live action films (i.e the ooze) The story itself is about ancient creatures returning to earth to seal a portal opened every three thousand years. The turtles themselves have grown apart after the defeat of their arc nemesis shredder, which in turn makes it difficult for them to pick up and start protecting the streets again.

The film is funny and action packed and I can see why fans took to it so much, despite critic reviews. If you were a fan of the cartoon or the movies, and they still have a special place in your heart..check this one out.
