Review of Titus (1999) by William M — 16 Oct 2007
This film is what 300 wished it could have been. Taymor takes an average Shakespeare play and turns it into a masterpiece. I completely agree with Roger Ebert on this one. In this day and age, we don't deserve someone like Hamlet, but rather someone cold-hearted and cruel, like Titus.
Taymor knows when to hit the right moments for comedy and farce, as well as more intense moments and it seems with all that's happening, it would be a mess, but it's not. Titus is a visually stunning film, but also a profoundly moving one.
