Review of Titus (1999) by Ryan L — 28 May 2008
This film only furthers my admiration for Julie Taymor's eye as both an artist and as a director. She and the rest of the cast & crew do an amazing job pulling together this Shakesperean epic. Anthony Hopkins is perfect.
The cinematography, costume, and music further add to the grandiose nature of this film (which oddly enough had a limited budget). I didn't find the dialogue trite, and I found the adaption fluid and engaging.
Perhaps my only complaint has to do with the trance/dream sequences. They were suppose to depict darkness, but they just came of looking kind of tacky. Also, the depiction of Tamara's sons was a bit over the top for my liking, but maybe that's just me.
Overall an amzing and epic perforamnce. The added conversation with the director included in the bonus features is quite insightful as well.
