Review of Titus (1999) by Marcello M — 30 Jun 2008
"It only takes one bad day to destroy a man."-The Joker.
It seems that way before Alan Moore was even born to write the classic line from "Killing Joke", Shakespeare had pondered on the subject as well. Titus tell the story of Roman legionairie who sees his world trumble with the rise of a new emperor, and the much evil deeds of his old enemies. From day to night Titus' life is ruined and from hero he's truned into madman. What really shows up in this movie though is what was DONE to the original story: imagine a paralel universe where elements of facist Italy, nazi Germany, Old Rome and an uncertain future mix together. It's like a huge broadway production brought to screens, it's a delight to the eyes, a wonderful trip that you'll never forget. then there's the acting, every single actor here, from Anthony Hopkins to Alan Cumming are at their best. This isn't really a movie, it's the ultimate work of art; and an elegy to vegeance.
