Review of Titus (1999) by Juuso N — 14 Feb 2009
The good in this film comes mainly from Shakespeare ... the adaptation seems confused as to which period it is set in (for example, why are the Romans all armed with swords and bows but the Goths with SPAS-12s and Chinese RCLs?) and full of wierd, unecessary 'arty' bits. Someone high up in the production seems to have decided that they didn't fancy doing anything as gauche as making a straight movie and decided to add some 'theatrical' bits that would be pretentious on the stage and actively detract from the film.
Given the quality of the cast and the probable budget I would expect better.
