Review of Titanic (1997) by Melissa D — 11 Jan 2014
James Cameron's "Titanic" is a mega blockbuster but it is ultimately a large scale love story which does end in a tragedy . The film has a lot of positives including the rich sets , the extraordinary settings and a pure essence of aesthetic love throughout the movie .
It has one of the most beautiful musical score by James Horner and probably the most acclaimed orginal song by Celine Dion. Innovative cinematography with nice use of colors depicting emotions of a certain scene makes this film a wonderful spectacle.
However for such a powerful storyline the movie suffers from weak performances by Leonardo Di caprio and Kate Winslett. We may be swayed into emotions and a beautiful ending because of the excellent underlying score but that does not forgive the forgettable performances from the lead actors.
Despite some conceptual flaws which can be overlooked because of drama , the film stands tall grubbing 11 academy awards and tasting amazing success worldwide.
