Titanic is a historical fiction movie written, co-produced, and co-edited by James Cameron. It is set in 1997 and is a romantic, disaster, and action film. Titanic is loosely based on the real event of the ship sinking on April 15, 1912, in the North Atlantic ocean. This movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio, playing the role of Jack Dawson, and Kate Winslet, playing the role of Rose Dewitt Bukater. It's ironic how the Titanic was called the 'unsinkable ship' because, at the time, it was the largest moving object ever built and sunk not long after. The Titanic sank four days into its journey from Southampton, England heading west to New York. Titanic gives us an image of how the actual event, but also draws us in with a love story.

Jack Dawson and Rose Bukater, the two main protagonists, unexpectedly fall in love throughout the journey on the ship. Jack and his friend, get the chance of a lifetime while gambling all their money on two tickets for the Titanic. Jack and Fabrizio, his most trustworthy friend, both had lower deck rooms. Jack meets a wealthy beautiful woman named Rose; they fell in love when she threatened to jump off the ship because of everything going on in her life. Rose was already engaged to a rich snob named Caledon Hockley, Rose's mother did not approve of her feelings toward Jack on the other hand, because of social class. They find ways to sneak around the ship, Jack and Rose attended dinners and dances together secretly behind Rose's family's back. The movie mainly focuses on the love adventure between these two, even though this love bond was just fictional to make the plot of the movie better.

The Titanic hit the iceberg at 2:20 am on the morning of April 15. Passengers on the upper and middle decks were put in lifeboats much sooner than those on the lower floor. Women and small children were boarded first, the ship didn't have enough life jackets or lifeboats for everyone. 1,503 people died from the Titanic shipwreck, 300 dead bodies were pulled from the waters the next morning. There were 2,208 people on board when the ship hit and split into two. The temperature of the North Atlantic ocean was about 28 degrees Fahrenheit, so would have killed many if there for too long. Caledon was so jealous of what Jack and Rose had, and had so much hatred towards him that he planted a very expensive piece of jewelry in Jack's pocket to make it look like he stole it. Security took him to the lower level and handcuffed him to a pole, Rose went looking for him and set him free with half the boat already under water.

I would give this movie a 4 out of 5 stars because the film was terrific and intriguing, but some significant facts were left out. I would recommend the Titanic for people ages 13 and up because some scenes have nudity, profanity, and violence. Some younger viewers wouldn't be able to tolerate the verbal threats made either. The character development was perfect for the storyline, one poor young boy surrounded by a rich environment with rich and posh people. This movie would be good for you if you are into love stories, action-packed scenes, and a tragic incident. Overall, this movie was entertaining and educational at the same time.
