I have been seeing segments of this animated feature for years now, but never really had the chance to view in its entirety until just recently. I adore traditional animated films and this was no exception! I thought the film was wonderful.

Yes there were several weak moments, but those did not derail the film at all. I believe that a lot of people took traditional animations for granted when they were so abundant during the last century.

Now that we rarely see any traditional animated features being made and being released, most people will find them more fascinated when they are exposed to them again -- I was an example. When this film came out when I was younger, it never really hit the spot for me.

I never found the film that interesting even years of watching short scenes from the moments while channel surfing. Though the film did not have that fun Disney-element to it, I thought the film was crafted quite nicely.

I also thought that the film was a little too mature for younger audiences. There were several scenes when I noticed bugs and alien creatures being blown up, prominent moments when blood was shown on screen and something I have not seen in a while, partial cartoon nudity.

I believe the last time I saw something like this was for the Disney animated feature "The Little Mermaid". I was quite surprised of the nudity in the film, but I guess the animators took some chances and made the film more "real" than cartoon-like.

One thing that kind of bothered me was the lack of work on the CGI animation. I know this film was released in 2000 when CGI animation was still practically new. But they should have at least took their time on it and it more interesting to look at.

But overall, the film was entertaining. It was complex and very dramatic. I was also not surprised that the film did not do well. I think the film could have targeted older audiences, but from what I have remembered, the film was basically trying to target young kids and that was a problem for the studio.

No young kids would understand this film. In addition, there were no fun characters that the kids could relate to. The film, in my opinion, was a little ahead of its time.
