Review of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) by Richard C — 01 Apr 2013
Gary Oldman's pitch-perfect performances as George Smiley is one of the benefits of watching this often heart-pounding, intense and intelligent spy drama that succeeds because of the direction by Tomas Alfredson who litters the film with such outstanding shots that it begs the question as to why he never earned an Oscar nomination for his direction.
While I sort of guessed who the mole was, I was nevertheless entertained by a spy thriller that works thanks to its cast and writing to the point that I could only view this as one of the top British films of the decade thus far.
As for the ending, the construction and connection of such brilliant set pieces and character dilemmas only served as confirming the last five minutes of the film as the sort of conclusion that shows how an ending to a film should be made.
