It might disappoint first time viewers who expect a Hollywood action thriller, as it is instead a slowly paced, intricate & intelligent film portraying the British intelligence service; it is richly entertaining upon subsequent viewings if you're into camera angles, lighting, sharp dialogue, superb acting, and plot.

There is a great deal of subtlety that captures much of the original novel and John Le Carré's voice; one of the greatest examples to date of a faithful interpretation of a novel. Despite embodying a different physique, Oldman captures Smiley's character with astonishing accuracy.

Those who are devout followers of Jason Statham-esque rubbish should steer away, though. This is very much character-driven espionage drama.
