Review of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) by Andrew W — 17 May 2013
"Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" is the most tightly woven, intelligent, and demanding espionage film I have ever seen. In order to reap it's great rewards, a viewer must have extreme patience and a considerable attention span.
Personally, I missed several of the intricacies and subtle plot points upon my first viewing. This is a film that demands at least a second viewing. Even with all this, the highlight of the film may be Gary Oldman's performance, one that has been largely unappreciated, probably due to it's subtlety.
Never before have I seen an actor give a performance so subtle, appearing so cold and calculating, while still managing to convey both great power and emotion.
