Review of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) by Omar L — 12 Dec 2013
This movie might have resonated more in the heydays of the Cold War. This movie wasn't so much about the stakes of the mission of MI-6 as it was about the internal ambitions of spies and the game they played.
Not once are we shown what it means to defend the UK or NATO from Communism, so we just have to take for granted that it all means something in the end. Fortunately, the acting is what you would expect from Oldman, Hurt, Cumberbatch, Hardy, and company; the acting and line deliveries alone make the movie an enjoyable experience.
However, performances alone do not a great movie make. Good, yes. Great? No.
