Review of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) by Joe H — 20 Nov 2014
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, albeit confusing, is a film alive and brimming with emotional tension. Predominantly a character-driven drama, as the characters come closer to navigating the puzzle of international Cold War espionage in the aftermath of an embarrassing and costly blunder in the field, we learn more about them as human beings, and the fears and motivations that drive their decisions.
I still have no idea how the film gets to its conclusion, but I love the way it gets there, with a slow, eminent, and constant sizzle. The cast is immaculate, and Gary Oldman as the enigmatic George Smiley has never been better.
