It is rare that two contrasting masterpieces are made from the same source. That has, however, happened with Tinker, Tailor. This insidious, ugly-beautiful picture can stand proudly beside the classic BBC TV series.
The plotting is layered. The photography is cunning. And it has one of the great last scenes. Superb.
