Set during the Cold War, a high-ranking Britsh Intelligence officer who is disgraced and forced to retire after a failed mission in Hungary is called back to investigate on a presumed Soviet infiltrate.
John la Carré's novel is stylishly brought to life with a delightful chiaroscuro photography, but while the characters are interesting and unique, the plot is convulted and cold.
